Nature's Palette

Artistry Inspired by the Maltese Landscape

William Azzopardi is a talented artist based in the picturesque South of Malta. His unique creations encompass vibrant watercolour and acrylic paintings, as well as innovative pieces crafted from recycled materials. Each artwork reflects his deep appreciation for nature, capturing the essence of light, water, and rock in mesmerizing ways.

What Inspires My Art

“I cannot fail to be inspired by the massive fortifications, the views of the port, the rapt beauty of the sea, the decaying towns dressed in their Sunday best for the festas, the capers flowering on the walls and the secluded gardens with lilies and cyclamens,” he proudly admits. “I cannot help smiling when people look at my paintings and ask me: Where is this? Mdina? They’re very surprised when I say Zabbar or Zejtun!”

My Story

Get to Know Us

William studied art both in Malta, at the Government School of Art in Valletta as well as in Italy at the Istituto Leonardo Da Vinci in Florence. He also travelled extensively to explore and learn more about the “great masters” in the history of art.

His hometown Zabbar features frequently in his work.

A few years ago William joined some of Malta’s finest artists to take part in outdoor painting, as he believes that the natural elements such as the weather, atmosphere and mood are generally transmitted and captured more vividly in a painting than in a photo.

“I find it essential to be out on the spot to experience the landscape live.

That is why I often paint on the spot with my fellow artists. My art, in collage, acrylic and watercolour, has combined sharp or humourous social comment, abstraction and movement and occasionally, a touch of surrealism. Lately, it has changed from an intuitive response to surroundings to a non-figurative and free expression of fleeting colours.”
